Captive Bred Black Cardinalfish, Apogonichthyoides melas

We are excited to offer captive bred black Cardinalfish by ORA! These stunning jet black Cardinalfish are 100% aquacultured and trained to eat small pellets such as PE pellets, TDO pellets, frozen Mysis shrimp, Calanus, and more. They often hang-out in a group in the aquarium. These unique fish are not shy and you will see them a lot. They are very active eaters and very hardy fish. We love their personality, shape, and behaviour. Their sold black coloration is striking and bold.

Size: ~1-2 inches. They will reach up to 3-3.5 inches with maturity.

They can be housed individually, as pair or even better, in a group of 3-5+ individuals. They are very peaceful fish and friendly to keep with our captive bred seahorses. They are mouth brooders and may even produce fry in your aquarium when they mature.

This is for a Male/Female Erectus Seahorse Pair.

Species: Hippocampus erectus, Common name: Lined Seahorse.

Beautiful bright silver saddling markings and tail bands. Line markings are more pronounced as the seahorse matures. Colors are yellow, peach or beige. Color is not fixed and seahorses can change color based on surroundings, diet, mood and other factors. Cirri is present on some individuals. Our breeders have been selected for producing beautiful saddling markings. Every single one is individually unique. They are stunning! If you have specific requests contact us and let us know.

This genetic line of seahorses originates from South Florida. We sell our Captive Bred seahorses when they are 4-5 months old and they are approximately 3-4+ inches. You can expect them to reach 5-7+ inches.

This is the most common seahorse species hobbyist start out with. They are very hardy and great beginner seahorses!

Breeding: This species typically produces 50-500+ fry. Males are pregnant for 14-21 days. Fry typically hitch from day one. Newly hatched Artemia (brine shrimp) can be used as a first food for fry.

All of our captive bred seahorses are very healthy, active, friendly and full of personality. Our seahorses are trained to eat frozen Mysis shrimp from a young age. We recommend feeding our seahorses Hikari BioPure Mysis shrimp and PE Mysis shrimp twice daily. Seahorses are very social animals. They do best when kept paired or in a group.

Please see our Seahorse Info page to learn more about the care of our seahorses.
