Description:
This species will need to be properly harvested back after it settles in and grows to prevent it from being an overgrower in the aquarium. Maintaining proper reef tank parameters (see chart below) is important with this variety as they pull nutrients from your water to grow and thrive in the aquarium.
Saltwater Macroalgae are great for decorative purposes, macroalgae scapes, and nutrient export in the aquarium. Macroalgae are helpful in outcompeting undesirable nuisance microalgae by taking up excess nutrients (primarily nitrates and phosphates) in the aquarium. Hair, turf, or filamentous microalgae in the aquarium is unattractive and can overgrow your corals, rocks, sandbed and create an unhealthy environment in the aquarium. Staying ahead and outcompeting these nuisance algae in the aquarium is the best way to avoid them. Macro algae can be helpful with this as well as good aquarium husbandry and clean-up crew for the aquarium.
In some low nutrient aquarium systems or systems with a very established macroalgae population some nutrient dosing may be required for your macroalgae to grow and thrive. We use Brightwell ChaetoGro, NeoNitro (for nitrate dosing), and NeoPhos (for phosphate dosing) in our systems here a few times a week. Every aquarium is different as far as requiring or not requiring dosing and this can change with time. Macroalgae do not handle sharp drops in nitrates or phosphates well and this should be avoided.
Recommended Water Parameters for Keeping Macroalgae:
Macroalgae are full strength saltwater decorative algae. We highly recommend using RODI or distilled water for producing saltwater for your aquarium. Corals, macroalgae and other saltwater live animals can be sensitive to improper water quality or impurities that can come with regular bottled or tap water.
Recommended Measurable Saltwater Aquarium Parameters:
Specific Gravity: 1.023-1.025
pH: 8.1-8.4
Nitrates: Less than 20 ppm
Nitrites: 0 ppm, undetectable
Phosphates: 0 ppm, undetectable
Ammonia: 0 ppm, undetectable
Alkalinity: 8-12 dKH
Calcium: 350-450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm
Temperature: 70-78 Fahrenheit
**Please make sure your aquarium is fully cycled and properly set up before adding any macroalgae, invertebrates, fish, and livestock to the aquarium. Information for cycling a saltwater aquarium can be found here: https://seahorsesavvy.

Please note: We are proud to offer a wide selection of diverse and healthy saltwater macroalgae. Color and appearance varies. Differences in lighting, glass, water parameters, and many other factors can influence how a specimen appears so it may appear different in your aquarium. We do not guarantee compatibility, color, exact size, exact species, shape of livestock. We quarantine and hold our macroalgae before offering them for sale. All macroalgae are housed in a macroalgae only system. We do not mix them with any other fish, invertebrates or other livestock. We have regularly checked through our specimens for pests. While we do our best to ensure all livestock is pest free, we do not guarantee any livestock is 100% pest free and always encourage good quarantine practices at home no matter where you get your livestock from.
Tangs and other herbivores including some fish and invertebrates may consume macroalgae in the aquarium.
