Gulf Pipefish-Pair

This is for a male and female pair of Gulf Pipefish

Size: ~2.5-5+ inches

Species: Syngnatus scovelli

This is a Florida native pipefish species. They do well housed with our H. erectus seahorses as they naturally overlap in their distribution. They are very peaceful and can be kept singly, two or in a group together. They are a fairly active pipefish species and mostly hang out in the substrate but will swim in the open during feedings. This species will breed in captivity and we start our fry on Aretmia nauplii as a first food.

We are feeding them a mix of live enriched Artemia nauplii, enriched live adult size brine shrimp, frozen Spirulina brine shrimp, frozen Mysis shrimpand whole Hikari BioPure Mysis shrimp, and Calanus. When kept with our captive bred H. erectus seahorse they often will actively take frozen mysis shrimp exclusively.

Our Aquarium Conditioned fish are quarantined and observed at our aquaculture facility before offered for sale. We prophylactically deworm all our fish as well as run an anti-parasitic treatment on all of our fish.

These pipefish can be a bit jumpy so it is best to have a cover on your aquarium.

We keep them at the same temperature and water parameters as our H. erectus seahorses. We recommend 70-74 F if kept with our captive bred seahorses but they can be kept up to 78-80 F in an aquarium. We recommend a 15 gallon minimum aquarium size for up to 4 individuals. These pipefish are a low bio-load compared to seahorses and do well in groups. A single or small group (up to ~4 individuals) of Long Nose pipefish can be easily added to the minimum 30-45 gallon seahorse aquarium given proper filteration.
