Aquarium Conditioned-Aiptasia Eating Filefish (Matted Filefish)
Aquarium Conditioned Aiptasia Eating/Matted Filefish-Acreichthys tomentosus.
Matted filefish are a unique fish species and are best known for eating the pest Aiptasia in the aquarium. These filefish will also eat small pellets such as PE pellets, TDO pellets, frozen Mysis shrimp, Calanus, and more. We recommend feeding them often such as 2-3 times daily. These filefish have interesting mottled coloring and are out and about in the aquarium! This is a popular fish species.
Our Aquarium Conditioned fish are quarantined and observed at our aquaculture facility before offered for sale. We prophylactically deworm all our fish as well as run an anti-parasitic treatment on all of our fish.
Size: ~1-2+ inches. They will reach up to 2-3 inches with maturity.
We recommend housing this species singly, paired or in a group. If kept as a pair or group it is best to add them to the aquarium at the same time. They are peaceful fish and friendly to keep with our captive bred seahorses. They are considered a reef safe species meaning they do not typically go after invertebrates and corals. It is best to make sure they are also well fed to also help reduce risk of them nipping at other tank mates. It is possible for some individuals to be more nippy with corals then others but they are generally considered reef safe.
