Orange Claw Hermit crabs-Calcinus tibicen.

Approximate Size: ~0.5-1.5+ inches. Medium size stocky species. Sizes, shapes, colors and patterns vary. Reach ~1-1.5+ inches for maximum size.

Recommended Stocking: 3-10 of these small hermit crabs per 10 gallons is recommended for maximum stocking density.

Reef Safe: Yes. These are considered reef safe meaning they are not known for harming other invertebrates, corals, or fish your aquarium.

Description:

Orange Claw hermit crabs are a bit larger and more stocky than other hermit crab species such as our Blue Leg hermit crabs. These are approximately 0.5-1.5+ inches. Orange Claw hermit crabs inhabit a variety of shell shapes and sizes. These are great scavengers and amazing algae eaters. They will eat leftover food and graze on algae in the aquarium. This species is popular and are known for eating nuisance red algae in the aquarium. These also mix well with other hermit crabs.

This species is native to the Caribbean.

For our seahorse customers these are considered safe to keep with larger seahorse species such as H. erectus as well as Dwarf seahorses, H. zosterae

Recommended Water Parameters for Keeping Saltwater Invertebrates:

Our saltwater invertebrates are full strength saltwater animals. We highly recommend using RODI or distilled water for producing saltwater for your aquarium. Corals, macroalgae and other saltwater live animals can be sensitive to improper water quality or impurities that can come with regular bottled or tap water.

Recommended Measurable Saltwater Aquarium Parameters:

Specific Gravity: 1.023-1.025

pH: 8.1-8.4

Nitrates: Less than 20 ppm

Nitrites: 0 ppm, undetectable

Phosphates: 0 ppm, undetectable

Ammonia: 0 ppm, undetectable

Alkalinity: 8-12 dKH

Calcium: 350-450 ppm

Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm

Temperature: 70-78 Fahrenheit

**Invertebrates are sensitive to copper-based medications as well as freshwater or medicated dips and this is not safe for these species.

We ship livestock orders out Monday-Thursday anywhere in continental US. Orders are received the day after we ship. UPS Saturday delivery is available in most areas and offered at checkout. Orders can be held for up to a week. If you need a particular arrival day, reply to your order confirmation email right after your order is placed with this request.
