Dark Silver-Saddled Erectus seahorses
Species: Hippocampus erectus, Common name: Lined Seahorse.
We are excited to offer our NEW Erectus seahorse line, Dark Silver-Saddled Erectus seahorses!!! These are from a new genetic line we have been working with and we are super excited to finally have some ready to offer to hobbyist. The base color of these beauties is much darker than our usual Saddled Erectus with stunning bright silver saddling. The dark base color really makes the awesome bright silver saddling markings on these seahorses stand out. Each individual is unique and has its own characteristic markings. We are very excited about these new captive bred Savvy seahorses. They can be kept with our other Erectus seahorses and make a great contrast for collectors and keepers. They are all robust, active, full of personality and very healthy. All of our captive bred seahorses eat frozen Mysis shrimp!
Please note: While these seahorses are dark in color at our facility all seahorses have the ability to change color based on mood, surroundings and other factors. Color of seahorses is not fixed and can change even during shipping. With that said, we have moved them to several different systems at our farm while raising them and they have always displayed a consistent darker coloration than our other Erectus varieties.
This genetic line of seahorses originates from Florida. All of our seahorses are captive bred and raised at our Maryland Seahorse farm and hatchery. We sell our Captive Bred seahorses when they are 4-5 months old and they are approximately 3-4 inches. You can expect them to reach 5-7+ inches.
This is the most common seahorse species hobbyist start out with. They are very hardy and great beginner seahorses!
Breeding: This species typically produces 50-500+ fry. Males are pregnant for 14-21 days. Fry typically hitch from day one. Newly hatched Artemia (brine shrimp) can be used as a first food for fry.
All of our captive bred seahorses are very healthy, active, friendly and full of personality. Our seahorses are trained to eat frozen Mysis shrimp from a young age. We recommend feeding our seahorses Hikari BioPure Mysis shrimp and PE Mysis shrimp twice daily. Seahorses are very social animals. They do best when kept paired or in a group.
