These soft corals will add a new dimension to any aquarium with their unique shapes, texture, height and wide variety of colors. Most varieties are multi branching and all have their own unique shape. Polyp sizes, color and structures vary for different species and the same species can vary in appearance from different collection locations. We work with several suppliers to offer our wide variety of Gorgonians and Sea Fans. All corals should have their own space in the aquarium, you do not want them touching other corals and to be safe give them a few inches minimum apart from other corals. Different coral species can sting and harm each other when placed too close to one another.

Our Gorgonians often come attached to a ceramic coral frag plug but not all varieties do. This plug can be placed into a hole in your liverock or sand bed if you prefer. One can also use Coral Glue to attach the plug to the rockwork to help keep the Gorgonian Secure and in place.

If you do not have a hole in the rockwork or perhaps you do not like seeing the frag plug in your aquarium you can remove the Gorgonian or Sea Fan coral from the ceramic coral frag plug. Gorgonian and Sea Fan corals have a "stem" internally which you will see when you remove the coral from the plug. This is most often brown in coloration. We recommend dropping the coral glue on this stem base outside of the aquarium and placing the base onto the rockwork in the aquarium where you wish. It helps to find a little crevice in the rock to place the base in. Once the coral glue touches the aquarium water it will start to set and have an external film. It helps to twist the base on the rock where you wish to place the coral to help break open this drying film. This will help the coral stick to the rockwork better. Many Gorgonians and Sea Fans are going to be top heavy and will take some practice to get the hang of placing them in the aquarium. It may also help to lean another piece of rock on the Gorgonian for a few hours to keep it upright while the glue fully sets.

Recommended Water Parameters for Keeping Gorgonians and Sea Fans:

Gorgonians and Sea Fans are full strength saltwater live coral. Most varieties are multi branching and all have their own unique shape. Polyp sizes, color and structures vary for different species and the same species can vary in appearance from different collection locations. We work with several suppliers to offer our wide variety of Gorgonians and Sea Fans. The same species can often have a lot of variation when they originate from different collection areas.

Special Note: Gorgonians and Sea Fans do not handle coral dips well or freshwater dips and we do not recommend doing this with these corals.

We find these to be very hardy nonphotosynthetic corals and not hard to care for with proper care. These are a deepwater species and not always available to us. Finger Gorgonians are sure to add bright color to your aquarium. They come in bright yellow and a red variety for this species. It is best to place them in an area algae will not grow on them with plenty of water flow. They have large bright white polyps that you can easily spot feed when they open. This species will open and close as they prefer. It can take them a week or so for the polyps to open in the aquarium as they adjust and acclimate. This is normal for this species.

Gorgonians and Sea Fans are gorgeous soft corals and are considered hardy beginner corals when properly cared for. They are perfect for soft coral dominated aquariums, any reef tank, a Gorgonian dominated tank, Caribbean tank (many are Caribbean species) or seahorse aquarium (perfect hitching posts for them to hold onto). The same species can often have a lot of variation when they originate from different collection areas.

Special Note: Gorgonians and Sea Fans do not handle coral dips well or freshwater dips and we do not recommend doing this with these corals.

The same species can often have a lot of variation when they originate from different collection areas.

Special Note: Gorgonians and Sea Fans do not handle coral dips well or freshwater dips and we do not recommend doing this with these corals. They will not do well for you.

Placement in the Aquarium:

We recommend placing your Gorgonian or Sea Fan corals in an area that is moderate to higher water flow and moderate to higher lighting (for photosynthetic species).

We highly recommend using RODI or distilled water for producing saltwater for your aquarium. Corals, macroalgae and other saltwater live animals can be sensitive to improper water quality or impurities that can come with regular bottled or tap water.

Recommended Measurable Saltwater Aquarium Parameters:

Specific Gravity: 1.023-1.025

pH: 8.1-8.4

Nitrates: Less than 10 ppm

Nitrites: 0 ppm, undetectable

Phosphates: 0 ppm, undetectable

Ammonia: 0 ppm, undetectable

Alkalinity: 8-12 dKH

Calcium: 350-450 ppm

Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm

Temperature: 70-78 Fahrenheit

**Please make sure your aquarium is fully cycled and properly set up before adding any macroalgae, invertebrates, fish, and livestock to the aquarium.
