This is for a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) single captive bred Northern Erectus seahorse female. Large Mature Adult.

Species: Hippocampus erectus, Common name: Lined Seahorse.

Size: approximately ~5-6 inches. (Larger than usual for this variety).

We are very excited to offer our newest seahorse variety, the Northern Erectus seahorse. Northern Erectus seahorses are a genetically distinct subpopulation of H. erectus. The other Erectus seahorse varieties we work with and what has been commonly available in the trade are Southern Erectus seahorses.

Our Northern Erectus seahorses are more stout compared to the Southern varieties. We find they stay a bit smaller in size reaching about 3.5-4 inches as adults some possibly a little larger. Our Southern Erectus seahorses reach about 4-7+ inches as adults and are in general bigger bodied seahorses. Compared to Southern Erectus, Northern Erectus seahorse snouts tend to be shorter. Their markings are similar and vary for different individuals. We find their markings to be quite intricate and every individual is unique. We do see individuals with cirri in batches which is always desirable among keepers. They are fast growers and very active little seahorses. We would consider them one of the most active seahorses we work with and a lot of fun to watch in the home aquarium. They are very interactive with one another.

Line markings are more pronounced as the seahorse matures. Colors vary and can change but are typically yellow, peach, beige or brown. Color is not fixed and seahorses can change color based on surroundings, diet, mood and other factors. Our breeders have been selected for producing beautiful saddling markings. Every single one is individually unique. They are stunning! If you have specific requests contact us and let us know.

This genetic line of seahorses originates from from more Northern regions of this species distribution. We sell our Captive Bred seahorses when they are 4-5 months old and they are approximately 2.5-3.5 inches. You can expect them to reach 3.5-4+ inches.

This is the most common seahorse species hobbyist start out with. They are very hardy and great beginner seahorses!

Breeding: This variety typically produces 100-300+ fry. Males are pregnant for 14-16 days. Fry typically hitch from day one. Newly hatched Artemia (brine shrimp) can be used as a first food for fry. They do go through a bit of a pelagic stage but are as easy to raise as our other Erectus seahorse varieties in our experience. We find them one of the easiest varieties to get producing fry.

All of our captive bred seahorses are very healthy, active, friendly and full of personality. Our seahorses are trained to eat frozen Mysis shrimp from a young age. We recommend feeding our seahorses Hikari BioPure Mysis shrimp and PE Mysis shrimp twice daily. Seahorses are very social animals. They do best when kept paired or in a group.
